Provide outreach to residents, stakeholders and elected officials on the importance of addressing climate change adaptation and preparedness and develop a program to educate specific interest groups about the Compact, Regional Climate Action Plan, and the benefits of Adaptation Action Area. Consider utilizing the Leadership Academy concept to educate elected leaders, academic interests and other decision-makers. Read More
Counties, municipalities and appropriate agencies will collaborate to develop and carry out outreach/educational programs to increase public awareness about hazards exacerbated by climate change, mitigation efforts, and adaptation strategies to minimize damage and risk associated with climate change. Provide education and improve communications on energy conservation and available technologies with a focus on both short-term and life-cycle economic benefits, and incentives available within the region. Read More
Modify existing and encourage new public outreach, education and messaging programs associated with natural areas including upland, wetland, marine, coastal and nearshore environments and the Everglades to include climate change mitigation and adaptation messaging and volunteer opportunities to create awareness about the impacts of climate change on the environment. Develop strategies to promote fuel-efficient driving habits, including anti-idling practices, and to raise awareness of rules and safety practices for sharing the road with bicyclists and pedestrians. Conduct best practice research on existing campaigns and look for opportunities to integrate tools into existing high school, county and municipal driver education courses, traffic school curriculum, truck driver training, and fleet associations.
